This is a painting of the classic VHS cover for the film Ghoulies, produced by Empire Pictures. This painting flowed particularly well for me. It is a perfect combination of bold, gestural brush strokes and areas of concentrated detail. I think this film has a mixed reception, but I find it to be an appealing collection of surreal moments that are charmingly executed and sometimes beautiful. This painting is made with acrylic paint, ink, and paint marker, as well as a touch of airbrush that can be seen on the toilet seat. It is both loose and complex. “Ghoulies” is 16 by 20 inches on archival illustration board. I recommend not necessarily hanging it in the bathroom, but in the hallway nearby.
